The Powis Arms

Commercial food photography

This was an unusual commercial food photography shoot for us in terms of how we got the job. Whilst on holiday at Walcot Hall in Shropshire, the owners asked us to undertake a shoot of the The Powis Arms pub. It had recently been taken back into the control of the Estate and was going through a big revamp. One week after our holiday we returned to the estate for the actual shoot.

Our brief was to take images of selected plated dishes developed by the chef. Also, shots of the newly refurbished bedrooms (they also provide B&B) plus the bar. What could be nicer than photographing in a working pub.

It was a great team effort by all the staff and owners of the pub to produce wonderful food at the required intervals. Too quickly and it would have been cold when we got to shoot it. But too slow and we would have been waiting around.

Photographing the bar

We started in the bar area before the lunch-time customers started arriving. We also managed some shots of the owners’ dogs as they laid by the open fire. Showing the premises in such a nice cosy way was important for the client.

We then moved on to taking the food shots. We were very fortunate as the chef and staff produced some magnificent dishes all beautifully presented .

Lastly, we moved on to one of the bedrooms. This had been tastefully styled by Amanda and the team to show the cosy, warm atmosphere that they had now created.
